I recently registered with an independent firm that does not allowing their financial advisers to cold call.  Most brokers in the firm are already established cpa's and tax professionals.

I was wondering what are other alternative ways are there to get new prospects other than cold calling?

Not trying to be a jerk however I have to ask...why would you register with a firm that doesn't allow cold calling without an alternative plan already in place on how to grow your business.

Just wondering... I think compliance said it is a California State Law.

Seminars

Networking

Begging friends and family

Getting recruited onto a team

Local print ads

Sandwich board signs stating: "Will work for IRA rollovers"

Churing your IRA for commissions

and, unemployment

I haven't heard of a CA state law prohibiting cold calling. Are you thinking about the do not call list?

no such law exists against cold calling.  The DNC on the other hand... yea, that's no good.
