Today someone told me a new magazine titled something like “RIA Express” was recently launched.  Is anyone aware of any new magazine specifically devoted to the RIA business?

I tried to do a Google search but couldn't find anything.

It might be RIA Biz?  www.riabiz.com

Is that Brooke's new project?     What's everyone's take on that so far?

Hi Fred,

I actually considered using the name RIA Express. I like it!

Hopefully, you are thinking of RIABiz and I hope you’re finding it to your liking. We started it on Aug. 4 from here in Sausalito, CA and we are continuing to gain great momentum in publishing the kinds of newsy and informative articles I wanted to see targeted at RIAs.

I wrote articles from Schwab’s IMPACT conference 10 days ago and they were posted here at Registered Rep. David Geracioti wasn’t able to make it to San Diego at the last minute and he asked me to fill in. We know each other because I wrote a few articles about RIAs for him last year and this year. I was proud to add my articles to this magazine. It’s a great publication. Here’s one example of an article published on both sites. http://www.riabiz.com/a/23271

This week RIABiz had an article about Fidelity’s new M&A program reviewed by the Wall Street Journal’s new wealth management blog and picked up by Bloomberg. Last week we had our article about the 10 definitions of ‘Fiduciary’ picked up by the WSJ blog, too.

Right now we are running a three-part series about the biggest breakaway from Merrill Lynch and the year it took to plan and the 30 minutes it took to execute. It took a few months to report and it takes you through step by step. http://www.riabiz.com/a/30235

Typically we run a story a day or more 6 days a week and we try to make it connect directly to the biggest things going on with RIAs.

I hope I’m being helpful here about how we’re doing. If there are questions related to RIAs, feel free to ask me. I spend about 18 hours [seriously] a day on the phone tracking the industry. If I don’t know the answer, chances are that I can point you in the right direction.

all the best,

Brooke Southall

That's funny; it certainly appears that way, doesn't it?     If Fred and Brooke had drinks (and ping pong) or discussed cooking up threads, I know I wasn't invited.

Even if they did cook it up, I know for a fact that Zach and Fred know what they are doing. Fred has been contributing for quite some time, and Zach is the one who actually got my RIA set up for me.

Anybody considering that route, definitely give him a call. And they sure as hell didn’t invite me to drinks and ping-pong.

I really appreciate that.    It’s always nice to hear from happy clients.

For what it's worth, I don't know Brooke personally, have never once spoken to Brooke (in person or electronically), and certainly don't have a stake in his website.   All I knew was that he used to write the RIA pieces for Investment News and that he started a new project.

I responded to this thread of queries about RIABiz because Google Analytics told me that I was getting trraffic routed to me by Registered Rep forums.

When went to the forums, I saw the questions about RIABiz and I thought I'd tell you what I'm up to.   Sorry if this caused concerns.

Brooke - ignore volt. He’s a Jones guy that doesn’t really understand what it’s like to be a business owner.

There’s an RIAbiz.com that  includes articles and industry news. You might also check out transitions-mag.com. It’s a great electronic magazine that helps independents with business management.
