Wanted to know if anyone has good advise on buying a book of business from independent retiring or leaving business.  I have the credentials MBA, CFP five years in the business, but would like to add 60 - 100 million in assets.  I have checked out the web site www.fptransitions.com but not sure if I should fork over the $150.00 just to check out the listings.

I have been on FPTransitions for awhile looking for a decent practice to add to my own.  Most of the best practices do not show up there, too Public.  I would talk to your home office about possible sales.  One bank sold their entire division here in Indiana.  They are out there.

The other thing you might try doing is seeking out and researching existing practices in your area.  Then go and speak to the owner.  They may be thinking about their “out” strategy, but have never listed on a site like FTP.  Or, they may NOT have thought about it yet, but if you give them a compelling offer, they may consider it, or at least start the discussion.

I would guess that "solo" practices would be the easiest to look at buyingm, but not many will be in the AUM range that you identified.
