Hello All!

I'm not going to go into a long disortation, I'm open to any questions...  I am not an FA, I am the GF of one and he is currently looking.  He has a BA in Econ and a Masters in Quant Finance.  He's been at EDJ, yes I know, is working his ass off and not getting anywhere.  We are pretty sure a big part of the reason is that he is in an area that is saturated by EDJ.  Yes, Spiff, it happens.  ;)  He's driven, dedicated and extremely intelligent.  He's just not a "people person" which is the other big part of the reason.  He's not an a**, just not that A type personality.  He actually failed the behavorial interview and his recruiter pulled an override.  He really wasn't meant to be there...  anyway, if anyone has any leads, it would be most appreciated and any advice is absolutely welcome!  Comments, not so much but, meh.  I know they're comin...  lol.

I would guess just about all of them. They don't exactly actively 'recruit' though. Find the largest 50 or 75 independent Broker Dealers. Next sort the information from minimum gross production requirements. Find out your BF's current or projected production. Make a list of all the are at or below. Tell BF to,

Call the list.

Explain current situation and circumstance

Explain objectives and goals

pause

close.

I

If he is not an A personality he has no business trying to go independent.  He may be independent, but he will always have someone above him with the an A personality growing the book meeting new clients.  He is best to work at bank.  All he will have to do is sit in his office and collect a check.   This business is A personalities.  I worked at Jones and know what it takes.  Your value in this business is only but one thing  your ability to attract new clients and manage relationships.  This is what A personalities do--

Leaving EDJ is "trickey."  That said, we are an independent and looking for new qualified associates.

If your, ahem..."friend" is not an A type personality he should not be a RR. Maybe working for an RIA firm as a portfolio manager or some other function in the back office would be better suited.

Indy firms are always recruiting.  Most just don't have the budget to provide transition assistance. Given what you said about your "friend" I wonder if he would do better in an Ameriprise type of enviroment?  Semi-indy and he could probably find a team to join. Plus you get a brand which I think would be important for "his" personality.

Thank you all for your responses.  He is currently looking for a portfolio analyst position, which was originally what he wanted and was told by EDJ that he would be able to work into that, which was not true.  *sigh*  It was an easy separation and so far so good.  Thanks again to all and I hope your Christmas was wonderful and Happy New Year to all!!

This must have been the funniest thing I read all day.   She said in the begging all the guy wanted to do was collect a check.  I pointed it out that all he wants to do is collect a check.  Everybody wanted to recruit somebody who just wants to collects a check.  Than she confirmed that all he wants to do is collect a check.  hahahahahahahahah.   Can I just collect checks   Hire me I am a great check collector and I cash them just as welll
