I was recently hired by a major firm in a sales capacity with base salary plus bonus. I was given an offer letter, went through complete background check, including drug test, criminal, u-4, and even personal references were called. The day after my start date I was told they couldnt keep my because of my personal credit. I have some deliquent accounts due to unemployment, this job was the solution to my problems. Do I have any options? I really want the job and I believe the hiring manager wants me as well.  Can I convince them to take me on? should I get an attorney to help and if so any suggestions? The HR rep even admitted to me that they are seeing more of this lately.

As a former chief compliance officer I know that firms can deny employment due to the credit check.  It's probably their policy and view it a risk if a rep with credit issues is going to handle and/or advise clients' money.
