U.S. government is a growth industry. ... Look at the FBI, or CIA, or Defense Department. .... If you don't mind travel, you could be a sales rep for an industry you like. ... If you are financially secure you could go back to school and pursue whatever interests you. .... Or you could figure out what you dislike about this job and not do that anymore. I'm pretty sure that after seven years experience, you could probably make a comfortable living working 30 hours a week with a $30 million book and get rid of all your unpleasant clients.

If you want to leverage your background, you might consider back office work at a broker/dealer - compliance, operations, etc.

If you want out of the industry altogether, you better just go see a career counselor.  This is not the best place for career advice.   What's your degree in?  Any experience before this industry?

Apparently “Community Organizer” is a lucrative career path. I’m sure you’re qualified.

How about an Insurance agent and don’t even dabble with securities.

Why are you "sick of the industry"?   What has changed for you?   What about your current position causes you the most stress?   Without the answers to questions like that, we are unable to give ADVICE, but just unsolicited comments.

What is it that you no longer like about the industry? Is it the people that you deal with? Is it the products? Is it the general state of the financial industry right now? Tell us, so you can get all the fine advice that the members of this forum can offer (lol).

If it is people - then weed out your “C” clients and make your “B” clients “A” clients. if it is the people around you, then change broker/dealers.

If it is the products, then change the products you use, try alternative investments, or whatever, I don’t know. Not working off a lot of info here.

If it is the industry (which is what I am expecting you are tired of), then just sit it out, wait a while, and it will eventually come back around to be something similar to what it was pre-2008. Perhaps you can take a break from work and focus on your family and hobbies for a while. Extended 4 week vacation or take a sabbatical or something like that to just reassess your current situation and see how you really feel about it all. Take a step back and look at it from a broader perspective.

If you are excited to start working again after taking a break, then right on. If you dread going back, then take an additional vacation or a leave of absence and figure out what else there is that you can do.

Obviously, all I have said has been very very vague, but I at least hope that you might be able to get something out of it.

See if you can get hired by Citibank. The way things are going, you will eventually be a government worker, and probably will have a pension.

JayMc, yes I am a chick (thank God), and don’t assume that just because I advise someone of something, that it is something that I am doing. I work my f’ing a** off everyday. I don’t mean Monday through Friday either. I work until midnight most nights, making calls and having meetings all day long, and finishing paperwork and following up on emails all night long.

Not only am I trying to do the very best by my clients and make sure that their investments don’t tumble out of the sky, but I am also a division manager doing my very best to help the reps that I supervise keep up with their clients, build their businesses, and stay on track. I’m also bringing on reps to my division on a regular basis, which means training, transitioning, and a huge amount of paperwork.

I am absolutely not complaining. I love what I do and I changed professions to do this. I could easily be earning a steady paycheck doing tax returns right now working the same or less hours. But I prefer to do this, and I am good at what I do.

My point is that YOU need to stfu. You have absolutely no idea what you are talking about, and right now, in this economy and world, your negativity is absolutely not needed. Unless you are trying to buy his business or steal his clients, then we should be supporting one another, considering that practically the entire world hates our kind currently. We have now been put in the same category as ambulance-chasing lawyers.

And for the record, I voted for McCain.

Obviously, when you referenced "rock heads," you were clearly talking about yourself!  Easily one of the most idiotic statements ever made on this board.  Hell, maybe on any board for that matter![/quote]   Ice, it's an Animal House reference.
