I don’t have so much dread for the material (taking cfa December) but am just curious if everyone finishes the cfa and cfp exams early like the 7. I got 222/250 on the 7 in an one hour and fifty minutes, with two quick breaks. The thought of actually SITTING somewhere for material that however difficult, requires all or most of six hours seems more concerning to me than the level of difficulty.

The CFA was brutal.  Longest day of my life.

Ouch…what were the results? I only know three people who have passed level 1, and two failed on the first time.

Humm...  I know that...  Level 1 is as far as I made it.  I studied for about 200 hours, worked full time and tried to find time for my family.

And, despite the fact that test is scantron and can be graded in minutes, the CFA institute took over 1 month to get the results and then I received an email that basically said:  FAIL

Screw that.  Everyone that has passed all 3 levels has my upmost respect.  In this field however, you do not need it.  I was in a different sector at the time (investment performance) and it was a good fit.

I have both the CFA and CFP.  The CFA program is exponentially more difficult than the CFP.  If I were doing it again I would only get the CFP as it is much more recognized by the investing public.   If you have a desire to work with institutional account then the CFA may be worth it.  I personally think it is overkill for this business.
