There was an Evelyn Juan (Dow Jones) piece yesterday about smaller offices in GA and FL being closed. The specific locations were not disclosed.

Rego Park Queens NY is closing

I heard Matamoras PA is a place of historical intrest. Also Newburgh, NY. 

South Florida Business Journal had some more info on this topic yesterday as it relates to several branch offices in Broward County (south Florida).

Yikes! I heard the news today oh boy!

A particular branch lost 8 brokers  (well 7 plus the manager) within the last couple of weeks.

The SB guys I speak with say that the company is hemmoraging brokers. Is this what is being heard by others? (outside the north east)

Yes this is what "others" are hearing and seeing outside of the N.E.

Some might say, serves them right.   

Some might just, indeed.

Disquieting for the brokers though and not really all that good for the guys who have cuffed themselves to the firm.

One might think that it's a good thing because this gives the new guys and the guys that stay a list of clients to call. But when all that revenue walks out the door, and when if the experienced SA's go too. Head counts get recounted and support comes up in short supply.

Not to mention that guys at the firm start having to field "I hear you guys are going out of business!" calls (been there, dealt with that) and then there is the "What's the matter with you that you're NOT leaving? Aren't you good enough?" doubt in the back of clients mind's, voiced in the dark quiet sub text of their voices.

I do not think there is one client at any firm with such a pulse on the industry that they question why their FA at SB is staying when others seem to be leaving in ever-increasing numbers...

People are too busy to care/notice when one firm seems to be losing more than their share of FA's, especially in the short -term (perhaps the past year or so...). Things could change rapidly if one firm decided to lower their deals (ex. MS) and one firm decided to make theirs more attractive (ex. SB)...

You're crazy... Our lineup is ridiculous... Reyes, La Duca, Beltran, Delgado, Wright, Alou, Shawn Green, Valentin, and then the pitcher.

Throw in a healthy Pedro when he comes back before the All Star break along with Glavine, John Maine, El Duque and Perez with Billy Wagner closing down the games. I smell a 100- win season along with a ticker tape parade through the City come late October...

As much as I hate to say this, my Cubs will probably be watching the World Series on their plasma TV's (AGAIN).

If there are any DC metro brokers/advisors here who are Nats' fans, there's a Cubs-Nats series this weekend and I am willing to bet a 6-pack of Hamms/Schlitz/Pabst/Old Style (do they still make that stuff) on my Cubbies!

You would think that after spending 300MM to land a couple free agents and after bringing in Pineilla that you guys would actually field a decent team...

Well, at least the Bears won the Super Bowl... Ohh.... Uhhh.... Sorry about that...

Been a Met Fan all my life (Jets too, even more so - woe is me) used to watch them at the Polo Grounds - and I am really hoping for that parade this year Blarm, the hitting is awesone, fielding is excellent. The pitching might be our downfall - too many q's - INCLUDING, what Martinez looks like in July. Glavine will tire near the end of the season, Maine looks good, but too iffy, and Perez on the DL. I dunno, pitching wins championships. But I hope you;re right.

I am not worried... Once Delgado and Wright get back in form and start hitting balls over the wall and Pedro comes back, we will be a team capable of putting up 8-10 runs a game while allowing 2-3..

And if we didnt lose Pedro AND El Duque two weeks before the playoffs last year we would be going for a repeat performance ....

I'm much deeper South than Atlanta. In fact, where I'm from, people from Atlanta have an accent and it ain't Southern!

Oh for the days of Billy Williams, Rick Monday, Manny Trio, Randy Hundly, Milt Pappas, Fergeson Jenkins, Ron Santo, Joe Peppatone, Burt Hooton.  I haven't been a baseball fan since back then.  I loved the Cubs as a kid and grew up in Chicago.  Billy Williams was my hero.  Remember Joe Peppatone and his big hair?  I'd go out and throw a tennis ball against the garage pretending to be a pitcher and then when it came back at me I'd pretend to be Billy Williams fielding the ball.  If it was a grounder back to me I was Ron Santo.

Nowdays, you couldn't pay me to go to a game though.        

Ah, yes…who can forget the Pappas +2 for Frank Robinson?   (Robinson was 'washed up" at 30 years of age, according to Reds management.)

I was a kid then and Randy Hundley lived in my neighborhood (2 blocks or so away). I still have a 1969 autographed by all Cubbies' baseball. He got 10 or so of them and gave them to us kids.

Peppitone's hair made Sanjaya's look tame!

I still curse Tom Seaver everytime I think of them stealing our pennant from us that year.
