Great idea for a new business for x-Eddie J's
What do you think, all you x’s—about pulling together a website where x-ers can sell all their old EDJ stuff for a reduced price—kinda like e-bay…EDDIE-BAY! We could make some bucks. How many of you still have some old shirts you won for something, or notebooks or bags from trips??? We could make a killin’ if we pool together. Anybody in??? It would be great for the newbies because they wouldn’t have to spend the money they don’t get to look like one of the other Eddies. We could use the money to buy more EDJ stuff… as a charity…EDJ charity. Bet the RL’s would buy through us too…good UNUSED or gently used stuff! What am I saying???—the GP’s would buy through us! Oh!, this is a good thought…the current Eddies could sell their stuff there to supplement their income!
I took all of my EDJ shirts to goodwill. I keep waiting to see a homeless guy walk by in one of them, but no luck so far.

, 5 oxfords, and one jacket. I almost handed him a business card. You never know.
You might think I’m kidding but I’m not. I have a harder time transferring accts from other indy shops, so I see no need to add to that scenario. I would rather compete against a wirehouse or Jones rep, hands down. As I wind down my time on this great forum, I would like to say a few things.
Going Independent is not for the weak, lazy, stupid or someone who doesn't care about the client. This is a tuff gig and if you're not self motivated, please stay away and stay in a employee role. Better payouts or not, you must be self motivated to own your own shop. I've been Indy for almost a year now and find this experience almost overwhelming. As my time continues, it becomes easier and more rewarding. I find the same yardsticks I used at Jones still applicable, without the baggage. For all you Jones reps PMing me with questions, I hope I've helped in some small way. My best advice in closing is...don't be afraid of change, continue prospecting as before, know your friends now won't be your friends when you leave. Know the reason you or I will become successful is based on the person you see in the mirror every morning. (unless your spiff and don't shave yet) And lastly, don't look back, only forward. THe best to all and I hope you have high hopes of a great 08 as I do.bspears---don't leave until the 31st! I've spent two years reading your stuff...I know I'm selfish but I want to talk with you. That's as long as I'll stay on this too.... from just before Christmas to the 31st. Anything more is taking money away from my clients and me.
You've been funny, insightful, intriging, honest, playful, goofy. I hope you can last one more week. I'm not LPL, but I would have been proud to be one of you. I have a story about a guy I talked to one day while out doorknocking. He was trimming bushes at a house I would call an estate. I started talking to him and discovered he was doing yard work for the Dr that owned the place. He was very down to earth and told me how the company he worked for had moved from the U.S. and left him jobless at the age of 52. Everytime I would see him around town we would make small talk and I really enjoyed talking to the guy. One day he came into my office to ask about cd rates. It turned out he had a $100,000 cd coming due at a local bank. To make a long story short over the next year and 1/2 he brought me over 3.5 million dollars. He drives a 15 yr old car and no one but me even has a clue that this handyman has this kind of money. I really think the Dr he works for thinks he is helping this guy just get by. We had another suck-up IR/FA tell the identical BS story at the Regional Meeting. Get back to work!!!In the city you have yardworkers, here in my town we have farmers. They look like they just got done wallowing with the little piggies and walk into my office with 100kl checks. I think they do this on purpose to mess up my nice furniture.

That is just classic! Great thought on the eddie-bay site. I could finally figure out where to put that bulls vs bears pacesetters award and all those stupid plaques…I still remember my wife saying “they gave you a shovel as an award… doesn’t that tell you something?”
we’ve been tearing the old Eddie pictures apart and putting nice pictures in them. Why waste the frames and matting? As for the plaques…useless. Our only hope to to get this website up and running, and then have an innovative person figure out how to change the names so some Eddie can buy and display without ever having to do anything.

With you being a child of the 60's, no doubt you recognize that your need for exaggeration is very extensive. Is the person that gave you 3.5m dollars is a real person?...you see... so many of us don't believe you. Why? Because Eddie doesn't have 3.5m dollar clients. Not in the rural areas, and not in the urban areas. It's so rare for them---way too rare for you to have one...and here's the real reason you are not believable....you couldn't possibly attract that person. You're dumb. Really!
