What about this post would lead me to that conclusion?

Ok I got it...this is NO i's new login name.

I am so freaking jealous that my skin is itching.  Anyone have a suggestion on who I should talk to at EDJ to try and get my old job back?  Is there hope or am I dead in the water here?

 Help Please!!

So when JD Power announces this, is this in the same article that announces that some new Ferrari has the best engine in its class?  I’ve heard of diversification, but this seems like a little disconnect to me.

Jun 29, 2006 7:18 pm

That's Great News!   I still have the replica of the first one they won several years ago- I use it to keep the bathroom door open. I had to pay $65 for it- now I can sell it along with my one (1) sleeve of American Funds Golf Balls to the Edward Jones History of Culture and Cult Museum scheduled to open in the fall of 2012- timed to coincide with everybody getting e-mail.

MBA

what is it going to do for your clients net worth? and yours

answer.....................................nothing

Jun 29, 2006 7:37 pm

JD Powers and Associates just announced they are #1 in conducting totally useless surveys.

Jun 29, 2006 7:50 pm

A close friend of mine who now works for ML said that it is mandatory to have a poster of JD Power and associates in every brokers office to help persuade their clients keep their money there

Wrong.

Jun 29, 2006 8:10 pm

Come on people...you have to give them some credit.  In the real fine print when you go to JD Power's website it says that LPL, Dain Rauscher, and others were used in the compilation of the numbers but the sample size was too small.  That is very interesting to me.  I wish they would tell us what the sample size was.

I guess when you send out 1500 surveys to clients doing $25/month into a mutual fund A-Share and then paying $30/annual custodial fee, they must respond with JOY!

I think the Cerrulli and Associates surveys are much more insightful!

Jun 29, 2006 8:13 pm

This is an example of statistics used in an interesting way…if your average client is small, you have to have lots of PEOPLE.  That translates to more votes…I wonder if you did a asset weighted version of this what it would look like.  Although, I bet the 1 asst per broker thing helps ma and pa get more attention than elsewhere.

OK it is obvious now.  MBAassist is IH No "i" with a new name.  Only someone trying to get people worked up could say something that stupid.  And his name... are we supposed to believe that someone with an MBA is working as a BOA at Jones?  This is a joke.

MBA you are a dumbass.

Not even MaxDud would believe that someone with an MBA, even from some online degree mill, would work at the great EDJ as a BOA.

The Jones press release says that Jones scored particularly well for more affluent clients, apparently contradicting claims on this forum.

The JD Power web site says "new clients are primarily motivated by a strong brand image and recommendations they receive from colleagues and family." Here it is often claimed the firm does not matter at all.

Jul 11, 2006 7:41 pm

Let’s ALL OF US go to work for jones and then they can be the ONLY firm and then PERPETUALLY win the jd power and Am. Funds can go to eleventy kabillion in assets and we can sit around the campfire eating s’mores and drinking kool aid and singing Kumbaya. Yeh, that’s it. That’s the answer for EVERYTHING.

Color me a bit skeptical also.  Could be that their definition of affluent is at least $20,000 investable and a full tank of gas...

Affluent was defined as more than $100K. They also ranked Jones #1.

It is a 67 page report on our system, and is quite detailed. Many points refute claims posted arrogantly here. I like to read the facts, instead of anonymous boasts.

Another aspect of the study analyzed the number of referrals per client each firm received, and Jones was the highest here too.

Jul 14, 2006 6:37 pm

And by the way, another site analyzed firm payouts for $1 million, $600K, $400K and $200K, and Jones was #1 or close to #1 at each production level with bonuses and diversification trips included, but not LP.

I plan on staying with the firm for decades.

MBAassist,

They are plenty rude. By the way, a good friend at Jones has a PhD in engineering and an MBA. Funny, people didn't talk like this at college when I was getting two Master's degrees. It probably wouldn't work well with clients either.

Gone Indy,

Your response is not really worthy of reply, frankly. You probably know the site that did the payout survey. We all know that independence offers higher payout potential, and some trade offs. It doesn't take kool-aid to evaluate that carefully and decide it is not for oneself. It's your life, and mine. I'm staying put. I don't criticize people who go independent, or who work at other firms.

That said, the practice of characterizing those of us who leave as failures all the way to borderline criminal is systemic at EDJ, and that unprofessionalism is the cause of much of the criticism from those of us who have left.

As to the JD Power survey, how does that translate into a positive for your business?

Butkus,

Starka is exactly right.  You may not criticize those that leave Jones to go independent but many at your firm do.  That is why so many of us that have left have such a sour taste about Jones.  Lies that have been told about us are ridiculous.  Don't say it doesn't go on, I spent seven years at Jones and listened to it every time a broker defected.

Jul 14, 2006 8:47 pm

I have maintained since day one that the vitriol being spewed about EDJ on this board is being spewed by losers who left there because they are malcontents who moved on to their next place to fail.

They find this board by Googling the Jones name and have become an angry group of squatters.

Pay them no heed.

$100,000 does not equal affluent by my yardstick...not even close.  Just realize that the "facts" you're reading on the company system can be just as skewed as some of the stuff you read on here attacking your firm.  It's OK to love your firm, but for your own well-being, keep your eyes open, and view everything you hear or read on both sides of the issue with a healthy degree of skepticism.

I have no problem with a response or opinion like this. I have no doubt there are many successful, good brokers who have left Jones for independence and other firms. I just don't like the constant Jones-bashing on this site, and my intent has been to defend it for those who have not made up their minds. I feel sure this does not make me arrogant. On the other hand, most of the dialogue on this site is so low in quality I am sure I am arrogant regarding it. Frankly, much of it is pure garbage, and I am far above it. The moderator should be ashamed.

After reading the 67 page report by JD Power (authored by them, just viewable through the Jones system) I feel confirmation about the company I have chosen to work for and our values and business model. The report summarizes the benefits of working for the firm. One example is that Jones is reported to receive a rate of client referrals 40% higher than the industry average, and which was the highest in the survey. And prospects and clients I have mentioned the award to seem pleased.
