I’ve visited this site a few times looking for Series 7/66 advice, and
for every one informative post, there are 10 “my dick is bigger than
yours” posts.
There’s got to be a more helpful site out there… Anyone?

. . . And all you have to do is pass, contrary to what others may tell you. That is what my Dearborn instructor told us and he has a successful practice in addition to being an instructor. I would take his advice over people like Put Trader whose goal seems to PUT people down instead of helping them.

Passing the 7 is definitely not 'doing as little as possible to get by'. Why are you so hung up on test scores? Just b/c someone doesn't kill themselves to get the highest score doesn't mean they won't make an excellent advisor/broker. Real hands-on experience is where advisors make it or fail...not on a computerized test. Sometimes you have to focus your energy on what's important in the long run.

[/quote]I am taken by the arrogance of this girl. She just passed her Series 7--no doubt on the second attempt--and now she's an expert. What a joke.
As for the comment about a Dearborn instructor. Here's the reality of the cram schools.
STC and Dearborn are both large organizations that have employee instructors. The instructors are chosen because they're willing to accept between $35 and $40k per year. They teach about 150 days a year--often out-of-town.
Since there is no need for them to be around unless they're teaching they're encouraged to take a lot of time off. This is ideal if you're unambitious.
There are also a handful of individiuals who teach classes on their own. If you're in a class with thirty people, and it's not a Dearborn or STC class, there's a pretty good chance that the guy or gal who is teaching the class got all the money that was paid by that crowd.
Suppose you were an instructor at Dearborn--earning $45,000. Each class you teach probably involves between $10 and $15,000 in gross revenue......if you left Dearborn and did them on your own you'd only have to do three or four a year to match your income.
Another reality is that the instructors all invent biographies that include experience with NASD member firms--I actually sat in the back of an STC classroom one day and heard the instructor tell the group that she had been with our firm. I went back to the office and checked--it's never good to lie to people who can check it out.
In any case, if you're sitting in a cram course and some 30 year old kid tells you about a "career" sit there and listen while sucking on a huge grain of salt--the odds are 99.9% that they got the job because they answered a "Trainer Wanted" ad in the newspaper.
They are judged by their passing ratio, so they do everything they can to encourage you to pass, including suggesting that a 70 is as good as 100. The realiity is it isn't.
A few weeks ago I said that if your career ambitions include things beyond entry level brokering there is a better than even chance that decision makers will set your file aside if they see that you did not get at least an 85 on the Series 7.
Such policies are often informal, meaning that they are not in writing--but when it comes time to deciding who will be a good leader of a branch why in the world would the decision maker choose somebody who could not bother to try hard enough on the Series 7 to get at least an 85?
Where is the pride in doing just enough to get by?

And, by the way, the Series 7 ain't $#!+ to pass for anyone with three or more working brain cells.
If you can't pass the 7 on the first attempt, remove yourself from the gene pool immediately so as to preserve life as we know it.

I totally agree...this website does suck, I just registered to introduce myself and say hello because I was just sponsored to take my S6 exam, as to all my other forums...and then I get all these crappy comments along with someone accusing me of being a troll...wtf is that? some people are awful.

Exactly. At first, I too was annoyed by what complete and total ***holes a lot of the people on this board are. Another example is how everytime anybody asks just about any question, they are told in a smart alec way to "use the search function, moron." People new to the board don't know about the search function, moron. Then I came to the realization this is a board full of white collar sales people. What else should I have expected other than huge egos and complete and total self-absorbtion?

[/quote]Hey Rookie if you're going to succeed in this business you are going to need to be less sensitive, learn to handle it better when you hear answers that aren't exactly what you wanted, and constantly be open to new strategies for success(like learning to use a "search" button).

1.) I was not whining. I was validating somebody else's points. I have gotten use to the fact that you're a jerk and realize that I should expect it.
2.) You're the biggest jerk on this site and whenever I think about people who are completely unnecessarily rude to other posters because they have their head way too far up their @$$, I think of you first.

You'll find plenty of people like that in a wirehouse office who want to waste your time bitching about the long list of EXTERNAL reasons for their failure(stupid BOM, annoying clients, tough market, the regulators, etc). It's your choice whether to waste your time whining with them or avoid them and do what you need to do to succeed.
