Disclosure during hiring

Recently realized I still have a blemish on my record from 20 years ago -

stupid college prank that got me a misdemeanor. I feel as stupid now as I

did then. I’ve confirmed that it can be expunged in a process that will take

about 8 weeks. Questions:

A) Wait to have it expunged before applying for a position?

B) I feel I should disclose this for sure during an interview, expunged or not,

but curious if it really will likely diminish odds of an offer?

First, I strongly encourage you to speak with a qualified attorney about your situation.

Unless told otherwise by that attorney, then I suggest you disclose the entire incident.

The last thing you want is for your hiring firm to find something that indicates you were less than truthful.

I agree - just curious if it would be better to wait for the expungement

process to be completed before starting the application process, and

whether or not something minor from so long ago would reduce the odds

for hire…

In my experience, the only way this could harm you is if you failed to disclose it.

Have it expunged, then disclose it anyway.

Personally, I think it should be disclosed right here in the forums.
