I was just able to sign on to the website…they haven’t yet sent out an email notifying folks that they can see the results.

Now if you need to know how much it will cost to BUY the stealth bomber in 25 years, I'm your man.....
Well if you borrow the money today and buy the bomber at a fixed interest rate, you will paying back the money with cheaper dollars twenty five years from now. And if the bomber is still working then, and you discount the future of the bomber into today's dollars... you have a CFP exam question, for the next group of candidates.
All Joe has to do is thirty hours of continuing education, and I believe he gets a year off.

[/quote]Actually from what I read they don't give time off any more for that...you start accruing hours due right away.
30 hours every two years with two hours of ethics…first reporting period is prorated.
Yeah, you can just do the online insurance CE and it counts for CFP. I think they should tighten the standards … nah, they’ll never change the tax code and such in our lifetimes.

What a relief. I felt good coming out of the exam, but was too scared to let myself think that I passed on the first try. I tend to be a glass half empty guy. But I passed!.
Hats off to you Joe, passing without a review course - I could never have done it without the review course. Awesome job.

I had a pretty good set of classes and the ability to access them on line was very helpful. I just hit it hard...lots of perspiration, a little bit of prayer, and plenty of practice problems.

Joe, how long did you study? Can you try to compare to the Series 7--how much more difficult was it?
How many questions? Time to take tests?
I have my MBA and honestly I really don't want to study for this, but if this is what it takes, I'm in. (yuk)

[/quote]I took classes for 2 years and studied intensively for 3-4 months.
Personally, I would say it was far more difficult than the series 7....but of course my life is much busier than when I took the 7. It was 10 hours versus about 3 hours that I spent on the 7, if that.

Intimidating list, huh?!! Don’t despair…it’s not as hard as it looks…
It certainly is, but I can’t imagine it’s as difficult as taking/studying for a cfa exam. it’s like the 7. i hear guys talking about studying for 8, 10 weeks (at “work” no less, getting paid to study), and it blows my mind. when i took it i was working 60 hours a week, studied in the evenings/wknds, for under four wks and breezed through it.
7 was a joke compared to the CFP.
Absolutely...I wasn't comparing it to the seven, which I wish was harder...too many idiots in this business...
...what I would tell you is that the CFP was much easier for me than the CPA exam...and although I've never taken any part of it, I'm told the CFA is even worse.
no, i know indy, i was just saying. i hear the cpa is a royal pain too. while studying for the cfa i ran into quite a few mba students that just asked me “why the cfa, an mba is so much easier?” i thought to myself, “maybe that’s why.”
I;ve heard from a few who took both the CFA and the CFP, and unanimously the opinion is that the CFA is much more difficult.
I;ve heard from a few CFP/CPA's as well, and have gotten mixed opinions. Cant say first hand as I am CFP but never took the CPA exam, even tho I am degree in Accounting.
Whatever it is, I'm done with big tests. The CFP was it for me. As Roberto Duran once said, No mas!!!!

For those of you who still think the CFP is a waste of time, I just picked up a new seven figure+ relationship. I was far from the closest geographically to these people, but I was the closest CFP. This was straight from the wife’s mouth. Just think…other much closer financial advisors didn’t even get a chance at this relationship.
Sure, it doesn't matter to most folks, but for those it matters to, it's been well worth my time spent to have it. Gotta go...paperwork to wrap up...Nice job, Indy.
Did she google you or what? How did the prospects find you?Hit the LPL find a broker function and searched from her zip code. I’m actually taking the account from another LPL indy that’s closer to her, but that’s a long story. Suffice it to say, there are bad eggs at LPL also…

Many congratz to both! I’m going to start mine(again) in a couple of years when my kids are old enough to entertain themselves… When my first was born in 2004 my honey told me that it was her & the kid or the CFP so the CFP got shelved.

That’s a good question. I just took her comment at face value…it was something like “I saw that you had a CFP and we decided that if we make this move, we ought to associate with someone who has that credential.” I just assumed she knew what a CFP was and didn’t question her further on the subject. As I said, it’s rare that someone cares, but of my clients that do, ther are ALL A-clients for me. I expect in the future that more people will become familiar with the CFP and I’ll get more mileage from having one.

Next is to craft an announcement letter and send it to all my clients and to CPA's and estate planning attorneys.
I’ve had mine about three years. Other than some initial announcements, I really haven’t marketed it. It’s on my cards, my website, newsletters and correspondence. The certificate is on the wall in my office. For the people who care, that’s probably enough.
