Biggest day in 5 yrs and no one comments?

I will admit I was light into the Fed meeting but my favorite growth stocks

were incredibly strong today…all up over 4.5% and one up over 8%.

"A little"? Haven't you been a voice of doom and gloom? Excuse me if I've mistaken you for someone else.

Sep 19, 2007 3:15 pm

It was a good day for stocks. And that's all it was.

Not trying to be negative, but taking a long term view a 50 beep cut maynot have been the best thing for the economy. Everyone is going around right now in party mode. This will wear off, maybe as soon as Friday's jobs report. If the economy, over the coming weeks, shows strength the market partiers will be singing a different tune. That tune will be the boogie woogie low down inflation blues. Combined with the hyper sensative volatility we've seen over the past 45 days does not give me reason to celebrate.

For LT investors, buying good businesses yesterday's Fed move is meaningless. These businesses make sense to buy regardless of what the Fed is doing.

Lastly, yesterday doesn't signal a bottom in the housing market. When we see an uptick in housing sales, that's when it will be time to celebrate.

If we see inflation under control, and signs of a housing turn then we're off to the races.

That said, I'll take all the 300 point plus up days I can get.

Sep 19, 2007 4:18 pm

I look for continued dollar devaluations every time the government implements a plan to bail-out the bad decisions of the past.

Sure, the market goes up, but so will the price of imports.

Just my 2 cents...

...that's what I was thinking...if you're 90% cash, a few stocks moving 4-8% won't help much...

I'm a little surprised that thus far, the follow-up is in the green also.  I fully expected a pullback today to correct the inevitable overreaction.

I do very very little market timing...I've been pretty much fully invested since I started this game...and yes, that included riding through 2000-2002 and feeling the pain...but also adding to positions at bargain prices.

doberman and bondguy, well put.  Rate cuts are interesting, the fed says the economy and housing is extremely weak (weak enough to force them to lower rates), which would seem like a negative, but, no the market is glad to see uncle sam (or is it Ben) attempt to put the fire out. Good for short term, horrible for long term, sucks to be the next president.  Horrible value of dollar (with no hope in site), oil over $80/barrel, Hundreds of billions spent on mission impossible (IRAQ), etc etc.   For this I hope Hillary wins…  seriously though youtube Ron Paul.  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IWfIhFhelm8

Better not post your political opininons on Regreps.com.  You'll be handed your hat, or they'll call you a pinko, or something equally ignorant.

Sep 19, 2007 7:10 pm

Better not post your political opininons on Regreps.com.

I'd agree with that to an extent. This site has become the bastion of touchy-feely leftist liberals who can't compete in the arena of ideas and ReRep has become home to the (sometimes harsh-tongued) conservatives. I don't believe you were handed your hat for your politics per se, but instead for proving that you are stupid. (Remember, stupid, unlike ignorance, can't be fixed)

Sorry, with regards to the topic, I say Americans are addicted to cheap money, and will take the rest of the world into recession within six months. Don’t get suckered in by the rate drop, it is too much, too soon.

For the record - I have not met a politician I liked.  Left, Right or center. I just like Ron Paul cuase he is stirring it up a bit, in the end I will vote for Mickey Mouse (again). I think they (and us) take ourselves to seriously.

" All the best, and I'm sure you'll convince me that your site is as wonderful as you say when you've disappeared from here for an extended period of time, basking in the wonder that is your wonderful site. "

Doesn't YHWY mean God? A poster named God runs the other web site, and comes over here to harass you after you quit the web site? Wow, talk about religious irony.
Sep 19, 2007 9:00 pm

I don’t think he runs it, but is apparently religiously devoted to it, and zealously defends his faith against all perceived infidels.

Sep 19, 2007 9:10 pm

Censorship is always difficult. Kind of like lying, the more you do it, the harder it is to keep it straight. They must suck in a lot of new perceived infidels off this forum, since they advertise here.

Sep 19, 2007 9:36 pm

What part of “I’m not Bobby or Ferris” do you not get? I have no sway on the other forum. In fact, my name there is Daryl Van Horne (The Devil, get it…c’mon, think…it’s funny)
In my part of town, they would beat the crap out of you for saying that.

I’m armed, I highly doubt it, you idiot.

Sep 19, 2007 9:47 pm

Okay, you’re the Devil, claiming to be God. As a well educated idiot, I think I get your meaning. I think I’m done with this conversation.

Sep 19, 2007 9:48 pm

And you are made of ice cream. I think everyone’s clear.

Uh, yhwy, I realize you're not Bobsy or Ferris.  The more you post, the more I question your cognitive ability to even operate a website.

I don't care if you don't agree with me.  Really.  I don't care if you think I'm "stupid", or that you think I'm not competitive in your "Arena of Ideas".

All you're doing is taking time away from your wonderful website to be a troll here.

The question is growth, inflation or recession…what’s your call and how are

you positioning yourself and your clients?
Continued, sustained, long term growth with contained inflation within historical norms… Unless federal tax rates are changed (raised) to become more of an enemy to the US economy than they are now. In that case, the US economy will face potential recession, which will be blamed on everything except mistaken federal tax policy by those responsible. Left to its own devices, the US economy will continue to be the best long-term model for the world due to its citizens’ innate entrepreneurial spirit which rewards prudent risk taking. On this basis, I recommend my clients (mostly retired blue-collar types) continue to invest in balanced portfolios, using balanced mutual funds (American Funds and Franklin Templeton families) along with some of the very attractive new syndicate preferred issues we are beginning to see. For the more risk averse clients, I recommend using the Hartford Leaders variable annuity to take advantage of the same great fund management (American & Franklin) but including Hartford’s great living benefits, which guarantee lifetime income without giving up control of the lump sum. This model may be altered in the future if it looks like destructive (political) forces may be about to confront the US economy.

This is “My arena of ideas”, who’d like to join me?

My call is it doesn’t much matter. No one call prognosticate with enough accuracy to prove to me they're not doing more harm than good with their projections. I didn’t let the decline in February knock me out of the market, I didn’t let the step rise in mid-Summer cause me to think we were going to the moon, I didn’t let the following decline shake me out again. I am perpetually cautiously optimistic, and more oriented to my client’s goals than to some day to day imperative that won’t mean squat two years down the road. That’s been my SOP for the 15 years I’ve been doing this.

Now, I will admit I continue to avoid long term bonds, I think TIPs for income investors are a perverse joke, and I won’t be bottom fishing in places like home builders any time soon. I’m not all that interested in making sure I’m in at the bottom and out at the very top. I’m happy (and my clients as well) to get that nice, solid, conservative middle gain. I doubt we’re going into a recession, and I doubt inflation, at this point, is something that should be keeping you up at night.

Isn't Bill Gross known for calling 6 of the last recessions and for his constant "I'm not being paid enough for my bonds, given inflation risks"? Seriously, I think the guy's vastly over-rated.

Sep 20, 2007 2:12 am

He’s definitely overrated when he prognosticates on the stock market.  Wasn’t he calling for a 5-6000 Dow in the not too distant past?

Sep 20, 2007 5:03 am

As I recall he called the recent correction almost to the day. Some China market indexes are up almost 100% 12 month trailing. You wanna see a new paradigm, stick around, might want to make sure the old fixed portfolio allocation is properly planted and watered.

Sep 20, 2007 5:08 am

BFD…a broken clock is right twice a day.  He has made some idiotic predictions on the equity market, so any prescient calls are probably little more than dumb luck.  I’ll give him some props on bonds, but he hasn’t shown a good grasp of equity markets as far as I’m concerned.

Sep 20, 2007 5:15 am

Well he’s only a bond guy and every major public appearance will only sweeten his speaker fees when he decides to bag the commute. Nice reminder about the clock.

I make it a point to not predict markets, interest rates, or my wife's moods. So far that's worked out pretty good for me and my clients.

Sep 20, 2007 6:42 pm

Taco,

My clients consitently beat the major indices, they have investment plans that they can understand and an advisor to whom they are very loyal. I've saved most of them from very "complex" and "imaginative" former brokers who sold them crap neither understood and lost the clients lots of money while making the brokers piles.

Great arguement on your part, though. (and I thought you couldn't compete in the arena of ideas). I'd love to hear all about your investment plans that beat the typical American Funds I use.

I don't think investment plans need to be complex or simple, just so long as they help the client meet their investment goals.  I was just poking fun at you because you're so serious about hyping your "ARENA OF IDEAS", which we now know includes a total of 3 ideas: 2 fund co.'s and a VA offering those 2 fund co.'s.

As far as you asking to hear my investment ideas, you've spent the last few posts telling me how 'stupid' I am, so I assume you're being sarcastic.  But good luck with everything else.

All I have to do is say, "Diamond Dog?" and he appears.

If there was any hesitation, let all doubt be removed that Bobby is trainable.

The first task is get him to not quote himself.

Now go back to your cave and wait instructions, Diamond Dog.

Why don't you go hack off a few units of your loyalists at the Diamond Dog Cave, send them yelping over here for attention, and we'll pick them off like skeet? You should pay us for our time for this wierd therapy, but hey, you begged for it.

By the way, has anyone noticed that Bobby's post count does not go up? Do you think he has influence with the admin, or is that just my imagination? I'm just going to say good bye to you all now, just in case he has, you know, special priviledges here.

What you have to realize is that I don't care what goes on there.  I was there.  During what seemed to be a spirited political debate thread Bobby started crying about it, and then deleted the thread.  His excuse, as posted under the "Our Promise" thread, was that some newbie might read the political thread and be "turned off".  SFW?  I didn't realize Bobby cared so much about every sniveling brokers feelings.

I posted on the regreps.com site that if my posts are going to be deleted, then that's all it takes for me not to post anymore.  2 days & zero posts later, when I logged back on to continue a PM conversation, I recieved a message that my ip address was "banned".  That is fine.  As I mentioned before, I had no intention of posting there ever again, and was only wrapping up a private (I'm sure) conversation.

I really don't care if I'm not wanted in the club.  I already made it clear, in writing, that I was done with it.  I wasn't calling names, or writing anything that you won't see on the evening news.  But I was censored.  You guys can hopefully now realize that you can have your fanclub card back--it's in the mail.  Not interested.  Not at all what I hoped it was going to be.  Not worth my time (because it takes time to write posts, and if they get deleted, I have nothing to show for it).

You have to realize that I don't think your site is cool.  At all.  (except the software, good job on that).  Same shit as all the other broker forums, but with nasty management.  In this case, I'll take negligent over nasty.

(Actually, at the regreps site, they were importing threads from this site, or at least linking to here... slow news day?)  Bottom line, as cool as the rereppers try to make their site sound, it's the same as this one, but much more restrictive, IMO.  That's why some of them come over here still--there's something fundamentally lacking on their end?

But the whole premise that started the regs site is that there's trolls here.  Well, DAtoo's gone.  William's gone.  Not sure, but I think Nancy's gone, or at least tamed for now.  But the troll infestation I've noticed now is from the regreps site.  A few of you are apparently bored with your utopia, and have to have an outlet to vent deconstructive, worthless rants.... You're the trolls now.

Finally, I wish you the best whomever enjoys the regreps site, I hope you continue to enjoy it, and that is prospers.  Good luck in your endeavors.

Sep 21, 2007 4:39 am

If you think that DA2, william, and nancy are gone then I have a bridge to sell you.

As for why we like to come over here... to poke sticks at the retards, you included.  We could care less what you think.

Sep 21, 2007 2:22 pm

Okay, troll.

Sep 21, 2007 2:28 pm

Okay, piker.

Sep 21, 2007 2:44 pm

I frequent both forums.

This one: for laughs and to occasionally add a comment that might be helpful for the newbies.   The trolls that are disruptive are still at this site.  Bambee, icecream and others who are keeping a low profile for now.  But believe me they are still here.

The other one: for serious discussion of investments, insurance and sales ideas.  Learning about things like LEAP, LIRP, DI and estate planning. Great presentation ideas and discussions in depth about the economy, technology, one card system and other best practice tips.

All things we could have had at this site, except for the constant sock puppetry, juvenile bickering and purposeful subversion of the site by the trolls for their own amusement.

Sep 21, 2007 2:58 pm

C'mon Babs,  Bambee and icecream?  Let's not forget the truly negative and disruptive trolls who have no intention of adding anything of value to this forum:  Bobby, STFU, YHWY.

DAtoo, William, and Nancy can be thrown in there too, but they seem to be gone now.

Sep 21, 2007 3:01 pm

icecream = nancy

Sep 21, 2007 3:10 pm

Maybe, not sure on that one.  Bambee = nancy,  I can see that one.

Eitherway, nancy's like the little yippy dog that gets under foot, annoying and clueless, but ultimately not really ill-willed.

Bobby, STFU, YHWY = like the ignorant white trash teenagers who roll through your neighborhood just to play mailbox baseball, or break your car window to steal your stereo...  or, as STFU put it: they come here to poke retards with sticks

Taco,

You have not posted one single legitimate business related post here, only complaints about others. Go back and read who is really trying to add value here and who is just acting like a child throwing a tantrum. You seem so consumed about being tossed from the regrep site that you're simply here (where they'll still have you) to vent about it.

How's your business going? What's been working for you? Any good prospecting methods to share? Forget about me & Bobby and whomever else you so hate and let's see some business input, then all can judge whether you're stupid, smart, in-between, or just a bitter know-nothing.

Sep 21, 2007 3:19 pm

I posted a business related thread this morning, asking Malcolm about client appreciation events.  I'd like to do more of that sort of posting, but I get distracted by trolls like yourself, and your 3 ring circus, er, ARENA OF IDEAS.

regreps?  I was over it the moment I was censored.  You keep bringing it up.  Remember, if you go back a few pages in this thread, you'll see that you initiated this conversation.

As for your obsession with judging whether others are stupid or not, I'll just sit back and ponder on the irony.

Sep 21, 2007 3:29 pm

Taco,

I was referring to this thread. I don't spend my days combing this site for things to comment about. I stick to threads where I know I can get the amusement I come here for (thanks for that, by the way). Amazing how the "arena of ideas" line bugs you (and others of your mindset) so much.

I take it from your lack of business input that I requested, along with your prolific posting here that business isn't too hot for your right now. Don't worry, just keep plugging away here on internet forums all day and things will turn around for you.
