HOUSTON – A public finance lawyer who has handled transactions for municipalities, counties and school districts, among others, joined Fulbright & Jaworski L.L.P. today as a partner.

Marcus W. Deitz joins Fulbright’s Houston office from Andrews Kurth L.L.P., where he spent a decade serving as underwriters, bond and disclosure counsel in debt issuances for local governments and representing the interests of purchasers of municipal bonds.

“Marcus is a great addition to our outstanding public finance practice,” said Steven B. Pfeiffer, the Chair of Fulbright’s Executive Committee. “He brings a nice mix of experience to our impressive public finance team, which is highly regarded from Texas to California to New York.”

With more than a decade of experience, Deitz primarily has worked on a broad array of public finance transactions. He additionally has handled election law matters, general school district representation and state law compliance issues.

“Marcus has a solid reputation for his performance handling a myriad of public finance issues for a variety of clients,” said Bob Dransfield, the head of Fulbright’s Public Finance practice. “He is a great addition to our public finance team as we continue to meet the growing needs of our clients.”

Fulbright’s public finance lawyers were cited among the top bond, underwriters’ and disclosure counsel in the nation in 2010 by The Bond Buyer and named to American Lawyer’s 2010 Corporate Scorecard for municipal bonds. The public finance team serves as bond counsel, disclosure counsel, special tax counsel and general counsel to issuers of tax-exempt obligations and as counsel to their underwriters, credit enhancers and liquidity providers.

“For years, the great work Fulbright’s lawyers have done for clients has caught my attention,” Deitz said. “I am pleased to become part of such a top-notch team that gets these key transactions completed for clients and to add to the firm’s vast public finance experience.”

Houston Partner Neil Thomas said he has long been impressed with Deitz’s work and the key relationships he has established.

“The public finance community is a small one,” Thomas said. “Marcus’ reputation is outstanding, and our clients can depend on Marcus to help guide them through complex transactions. We are pleased he’s joined our team and look forward to a great collaborative effort.”

Deitz is admitted to practice law in Texas and Colorado. He earned his J.D. in 1998 from The University of Denver Sturm College of Law after receiving a B.B.A. in marketing in 1995 from The University of Texas at Austin.

“We are extremely pleased by the ongoing accomplishments of our public finance practice and proud to be adding another talented lawyer to an already strong practice,” said Shauna Johnson Clark, the head of Fulbright’s Houston office. “Marcus is an important addition to a key practice and we are delighted to welcome him.”
