The Web site of Investor's Business Daily (IBD) is available only to subscribers of the paper. Register at www.investors.com and remember your user name and password — you'll need them every time you log on.
Top and center on the home page are stocks with unusually large trading volumes. Although the data is delayed 20 minutes, it's an easy way to see what's cooking.
Then check out two parts in the IBD Power Tools section: 1) The IBD Stock Checkup tool, a simplistic but quick means to get another opinion (and better stocks in the same sector), and 2) The Screen of the Day, a source of fresh names sorted for varying factors that meet IBD's momentum criteria.
You can pull up a chart from anywhere on the site (after a software download). Down days are shown in red, up days in blue, along with data for each trading session for the past six months.
Finally, a Big Picture section (under Today in IBD) provides the same market recap found in the paper. This is one of the best analyses available, and the online version adds links to the paper's proprietary stock ratings and charts.
The IBD site is robust enough for professionals, as well as a good tool for serious stock-watching clients.
