The insurance industry is not often a source of artistic inspiration, but there is at least one exception: San Francisco-based techno band “broker/dealer.” The duo, whose music echoes that of German ambient electronic groups, named their full-length debut album Initial Public Offering. They dress the part in concert. Rather than vintage t-shirts and sneakers, they sport ties, dress shirts and suits. Where'd they come up with the name and concept? Band member Ryan Bishop told Registered Rep. that his father used to MC an interoffice radio show for his insurance company and that the band made its first recordings on cassette tapes of the shows. They were labeled with tape that read, “For broker/dealer use only.” The name stuck, quite literally.
