  • Joseph Evelo, named in 2002 as one of Registered Rep.'s outstanding brokers, recently moved, along with his team, to Merrill Lynch after 20 years with Salomon Smith Barney.

  • Phoenix has named James J. Polhemus (left) and Richard Sippel (right) senior vice president and vice president, respectively, of bank distribution at PHL Variable Insurance. Polhemus and Sippel will lead Phoenix's distribution and sales of life and annuity products and services through the bank channel. Polhemus was president of Strategic Financial Solutions; Sippel was managing director of Liberty Funds Distributor.

  • Andrew Spencer has been named to the new position of chief investment officer of JPMorgan Fleming Asset Management's U.S. retail business. Spencer, who reports to Paul Bateman, CEO of JPMorgan Fleming worldwide, is moving to New York from London, where he headed the firm's European Equity group.

  • Jay Evans will retire as chief investment officer and president of Amcore Investment Management Group on March 31, 2003, providing time for a transition of his responsibilities to other members of the investment team. Evans, 60, spent 17 years at the firm. To strengthen the management team, Amcore Investment plans to create a new chief executive officer's position.
